TALKING POINTS on the book:

HOW TO RAISE THE NEXT PRESIDENT
By Sally Sacks

Describe the book in 30 words or less:
This book teaches parents to develop their child’s emotions to promote empathy, connecting to others, and self-confidence. It also helps parents to reflect on the way they were parented.

Why did a book such as yours need to be written?
If people have been parented in ways that may have hindered their emotional development, they may be less sensitive to their child’s needs emotionally. My readers will learn to change inner movies that did not sponsor emotional growth and parent more effectively. Parents learn in this book how everything they do and say affects our children and what to do and say to grow a happier, more self-confident child.

How does your book change the world at large?
If we learn to think differently and control our thinking, we change our personal world and the world at large changes with us because we create a more emotionally aware and educated group of people running our world.

What do you see as the biggest problem with today’s parents?
Too many parents are not aware of emotions and how our parenting affects our children. Words and actions grow a child like sunlight and water grow flowers in a garden. My book is written in an easy to understand way and demonstrates hands-on techniques through real life examples. My experience comes from 20 years of experiencing in counseling all sorts of people trying to change their thinking from results of their own upbringing.

What are your clinical qualifications for writing this book?
I am a psychotherapist with over 20 years of counseling experience. My practice is in Westford, Massachusetts, where I help people to change non-productive thinking. The primary focus of my studying and practice is the art of thinking productively to promote mental health. I currently work with individuals, couples, and families to restructure non-productive belief systems and thoughts.

What inspired you to write this book?
I was inspired to write this book by the many children with whom I am in contact every day as a mother and as a professional therapist. I have worked for years with adults who want to know how to be more nurturing, emotionally-aware parents, and how to deal with their own world of feelings and emotions. Inevitably, the work I do with adults to help them become more aware, nurturing parents, takes them back to their own childhood, and the ways in which they were raised.

How do you feel your personal experiences have helped you write this book?
Having been widowed by cancer with two small children has increased my knowledge and desire to promote emotional intelligence to help others deal with life’s challenges.
